Expert Watch Servicing in Lancashire & UK-Wide
A mechanical watch is a miniature engine, often consisting of over 200 individual components working in perfect unison 24 hours a day. Just like a car engine, the synthetic oils inside your movement eventually dry out and coagulate, leading to friction that can grind down delicate gears and pivots. Whether you own a vintage Rolex Submariner or a modern Omega Speedmaster, regular servicing is the only way to protect your investment, ensure accurate timekeeping, and prevent costly damage to the movement architecture.
At Prime Time Watch Repairs, we offer a transparent, efficient alternative to manufacturer service centres. Based in Lancashire but serving clients across the UK via our fully insured postal service, we combine traditional horological craftsmanship with modern diagnostic technology. We strictly adhere to brand-specific technical charts, using correct Moebius lubricants and genuine parts to ensure your watch performs exactly as the manufacturer intended—without the standard 12-week waiting list.

We leave nothing to chance. Every service follows a strict 9-step protocol to ensure perfection.
Upon arrival, your watch undergoes a physical inspection. We check for magnetism, measure the beat error and amplitude on our timing machines, and inspect the case for water resistance issues. This allows us to provide an accurate, fixed quote before any work begins.
The movement is removed from the case, and the hands and dial are carefully detached. We then strip the movement down to its individual component level—separating bridges, wheels, springs, and screws. Nothing is left assembled.
All movement parts are placed into specific baskets and run through a multi-stage ultrasonic cleaning machine. We use specialist ammoniated and non-ammoniated solutions to dissolve dried oils, grease, and microscopic metal debris, leaving the parts clinically clean.
Once clean, every part is examined under 10x magnification. We look for wear on pivots, teeth, and jewels. Worn components (such as the mainspring, reversing wheels, or barrel arbor) are replaced with brand-new, genuine parts to restore optimal function.
This is where the skill lies. The movement is reassembled by hand. During this process, we apply specific lubricants (such as Moebius 9010 for high-speed areas and HP1300 for high-torque areas) to specific friction points. We also treat escapements with Epilame to prevent oil spreading.
Once the movement is running, we place it on a timing machine. We adjust the balance wheel to regulate the timekeeping, aiming for COSC standards (typically -4/+6 seconds per day) across multiple positions to ensure accuracy on the wrist.
While the movement is being serviced, the case and bracelet are stripped. Unless you request otherwise (for vintage preservation), our polishers remove scratches and restore the original factory finish, re-applying satin brushing and mirror polishing where appropriate.
The dial and hands are refitted with precise alignment. The watch is re-cased using a new set of gaskets (case back, crystal, and crown seals). We then dry and wet pressure test the watch to its rated depth to guarantee water resistance.
The watch is not returned immediately. It goes onto a Cyclotest machine (an automatic winder) for 5 to 7 days to simulate wrist wear. We verify power reserve, winding efficiency, and date change functions before signing it off.

Frequently asked questions
Here are the answers to the most common questions our customers ask about watch servicing.
Most manufacturers (like Rolex, Omega, and Breitling) recommend a full service every 5 to 7 years. However, if you notice your watch losing time, the power reserve dropping, or moisture under the glass, you should book it in immediately regardless of age.
Preserving the integrity of your timepiece is our priority. As standard, we aim to use genuine parts for internal repairs to ensure your watch functions exactly as the manufacturer intended.
However, we believe in offering our clients choice and transparency. If a specific part is obsolete (common in vintage models), restricted by the manufacturer, or if you simply wish to reduce the cost of the service, we can utilise OEM-standard Swiss alternatives. These high-grade components match the quality and tolerances of the original but at a more accessible price point. We will always discuss the best options for your specific watch with you.
Yes, aesthetic refinishing is included in our full service price. We can remove surface scratches and scuffs from the case and bracelet. Note: If you have a vintage watch and wish to preserve the “scars” and patina, please let us know, and we will leave the case unpolished.
Absolutely. From the moment it arrives at our secure workshop until it is back in your hands, your watch is fully insured. Our postal service also includes high-value insurance for transit.
We offer a comprehensive 2-year warranty on all full services. This covers the work carried out and the parts replaced. If the watch develops a fault within this period (excluding accidental damage or misuse), we will rectify it free of charge.
Yes, we specialise in vintage restoration. However, vintage watches often require more time for sourcing parts. We will provide a bespoke timeline and quote after assessing your specific vintage piece.
